One essay at a time…#
Check in on the middle and last Friday of the Month to read long-form_essays about the Great Outdoors, Camping, Overlanding, Off-Roading, Hunting, Fishing, Radios, COMMs, as well as Lifestyle, Philosophy, Cooking, Cooking Tools & Techniques, Science, etc.
A word of ‘warning:’ I do not call my publishings “blog posts,” because I believe they are a bit too elaborate/long to fall under that category. Instead, I call them “essays,” and most of them will require a bit more time investment from the reader. I prefer longer essays because they force me to actually argue, not just assert.
A short blog post is great for a quick tip, but the questions I care about rarely have simple answers. When I commit to writing at length, I have to define my terms, wrestle with counterarguments, and admit when the answer is simply, “it depends”. That process doesn’t just benefit the reader, it sharpens my own thinking along the way.
More importantly, some ideas need room to breathe. A framework can’t be crammed into three bullet points. Edge cases need to be accounted for. Nuance needs to be earned.
At the end of the day, I’d much rather give someone a piece they can bookmark and return to months later than one they skim for ten seconds and forget. Those are the pieces I keep in my own vault, so those are the ones I try to write.
I have chosen on purpose not to include a comments section after each essay, so as to not distract the reader from the material itself. Instead, I invite everybody to join on my Discord Server to discuss, criticize, comment, bloviate, suggest, … issues and topics related to the site, a particular essay, overlanding and off-roading, camping, camp cooking, philosophy, lifestyles, etc. in general.
