Mexican Hat Camp Spot

This is the Spring 2019 dispersed camping spot we used between The Mexican Hat rock formation and the San Juan River…

There are a couple of spots along the dirt road that runs behind the Mexican Hat rock formation – this is the largest one. It has enough room for groups, with potential for multiple tents (and fires.) There is one nice fire ring, and the views are amazing.

Very quiet, but can be messy when raining – red dirt gets everywhere! There is a path behind the site going to the river’s edge. Enough concealment to do business back there as well (natural/burying.)

Hello World!

Welcome to the UTAZCO Overlanding blog!

While I reside in Western Iowa, I frequently roam the Mountain and Western States in search of great landscape captures. While I “roam” pretty much everything West of Iowa, my preferred photographic “hunting grounds” are, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado – hence “UTAZCO” 🙂

I hope you enjoy this site – and maybe we’ll meet on the trails one of these days!
