New Mexico

Bosque Del Apache – Not just a great place for bird watchers. Sunset and/or sunrise at this place is magical. If you’re not into birds (or bird photography,) avoid this place during migrations – it’s a madhouse. Not merely because there are so many photographers, but also because … those birds are loud!

And no visit to NM would be complete without visiting White Sands. Unfortunately, there’s no camping in the park, and they actually close it up between sunset and sunrise, so you need to get permission and a ranger to open the gate for you, if you plan on shooting the night sky, or early morning Blue Hour and sunrise.

Oh, and be aware they sometimes close the park, if the nearby military base is “active.”
